Steady strong play from the Gallatin Lady Bulldog girls golf squad earned GHS the Grand River Conference championship on Monday, with the playing of the conference’s championship tournament at the Veterans Memorial Golf Course in Cameron.

Gallatin’s four scores all came from individual players in the top 10, led by a third place 109 from Elle Copple.  The individual GRC golf champion hails from Albany High School, with Kayce Messner shooting a 31-over par round of 103.  Laynie Sweiger of Maysville was runner-up at 106.  Claire Hemry of Gallatin was fourth, two strokes behind Copple at 111, with Maysville’s Hannah Riner in fifth place at 112.

Gallatin’s Libby Endicott was sixth at 114, with Gracie Wilson of Albany seventh at 116.  Jenna Rains of Gallatin shot 117, good for a three-way tie for 8th place with Justina Wimer of Worth County and Ali McManus of Maysville.

Maysville had a team score of 460, nine strokes behind the winning tally of 451 turned in by the champions from Gallatin.  Albany was a respectable third place at 503, followed by Worth County’s 506, Princeton at 531, and South Harrison’s 541.

Trenton, Putnam County, and Stanberry were the three schools with golfers in the field, but unable to post a team score due to having fewer than four golfers on their teams this year.

For Trenton, Josie Chumbley was unable to attend Monday’s GRC championships, but Mari Atup played and did well, shooting 125, finishing in a four-way tie for 13th place with Emily Whiteman of Maysville, Abbie Koenen of Putnam County, and Madison Nible of South Harrison.  Trenton coach Travis Mullenix, commenting on Atup’s performance, said “I was very proud of Mari. She had some really good holes today. Her length is really improving which can shorten a course, but can also get you into more trouble off of the tee, so she is learning how to deal with that. She was only 3 spots out of All-Conference recognition finishing at T-13th, so I was very happy with the way she played!”

Princeton had four golfers in the field, with Alison Allen shooting 119 (good for an 11th place finish), Brylee Williams 129, Jaysa Goodin 141, and Riley Moreno 142.  South Harrison’s scores were Madison Nible’s 125, Maci Lisle at 135, 137 for Sydney Deskins, 144 from Larissa Eivins, and 163 from Allison Eivins.
