Garcia’s 11th inning blast sends Rangers to Game 1 win

MLB

Slugger Adolis Garcia cracked an opposite-field game-winning home run in the bottom of the 11th inning on Friday night, leading the Texas Rangers to a 6-5 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks in Game 1 of the World Series at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas.  While Garcia’s blast ended the contest, a more-dramatic two-run shot by Corey Seager in the bottom of the 9th tied the game at 5.

Garcia has now homered in five consecutive contests, with his 22 RBIs this postseason establishing a new MLB record.  For the National League champion Diamondbacks, NLCS MVP Ketel Marte remained hot, with his hitting streak reaching 17 games.  Arizona had four stolen bases, sending that total this postseason to an impressive 20.

In Saturday night’s Game 2, Jordan Montgomery will start for Texas against Arizona’s Merrill Kelly.  The series will shift to Phoenix for Game 3 on Monday night.
