Gilman City girls shut down Union Star, move to consolation final

The Gilman City Ladyhawks, behind 22 points from senior guard Hailey Burrows, beat Union Star on Wednesday night, 43-4, pushing the host school into the girl’s consolation final on Friday.

Junior Megan Cottrell contributed 11 points to Gilman City’s win.  In the other girls consolation semifinal, Northeast Nodaway’s Lady ‘Jays clipped Tri-County by a final score of 34-33.  

The Ladyhawks will host the Lady ‘Jays on Friday night at 5 o’clock for the consolation hardware at the Gilman gym.

On the consolation boys side, the North Harrison Shamrocks earned a Wednesday win over Union Star 47-31, while the East Harrison Bobcats rolled to a 100-41 win over the Tri-County Mustangs.  The Shamrocks and Bobcats will meet in an-all Harrison County consolation final on Friday night at 6:30.

From the consolation side of the Meadville Tournament on Wednesday night, the Grundy R-5 girls beat Linn County, 60-49, as Zoe Littleton had 22 points and Jandie Peterson 17 for the Lady Panthers, while Alexis Miller tallied 27 points for the Lady Mustangs.

The Grundy girls, on Friday afternoon at 4:30, will play Northwestern in a consolation final, after the Lady Eagles scraped their way past Bucklin-Macon County on Wednesday night, 50-46.

The Tina-Avalon boys shut down Grundy R-5 on Wednesday night, 51-24, while the Dragons next opponent, Bucklin-Macon County, beat the Hale Cardinals, 51-46.  T-A will play BMC on Friday afternoon at 5:45.
