GRC West champion Stanberry rolls past Princeton in district quarterfinal test

High School Basketball

The Stanberry Lady Bulldogs were on top of their game on Monday night, rolling past Princeton 66-22 in the Class 2, District 16 quarterfinals at Mid-Buchanan High School in Faucett.  Madi Sager and Lily Osborn both scored 15 points for SHS, while Jaden McKune added 11.  Lacie Lewis had nine points and Jaelyn Thomas eight for the young Tigers, who showed great potential late in the 2016-2017 season, but end the year on a disappointing note.

The win sends Stanberry into an-all Grand River Conference semifinal against the Gallatin Lady Bulldogs (Wednesday – 7:00 PM), after Gallatin defeated Polo, 57-33.  Karley Salmon paced GHS with 13 points while Hayley Michael added 11.

The games on the top half of the District 16 bracket did not prove to be all that competitive either, as the #1 seed Mid-Buchanan Lady Dragons blasted Maysville 88-32, while the Plattsburg Lady Tigers beat East Atchison, 57-37.  Mid-Buchanan and Plattsburg will duel in an all-KCI semifinal on Wednesday night at 5:30.

The boys quarterfinals are Tuesday night from Faucett, as #1 seed Stanberry hopes to start another run to Columbia with a game against #8 seed Polo at 4:30, followed by a “Battle of Tigers” at 5:50, as Princeton challenges #4 seed Plattsburg.

The #2 seed Mid-Buchanan takes on Gallatin at 7:10, followed by the #3 seed from East Atchison (Tarkio/Fairfax co-op) drawing the GRC’s Maysville Wolverines at 8:30.
