Four more games were played in the quarterfinals of the Novinger Tournament, with the Green City Gophers and Novinger Wildcats playing in the marquee match-up of the night, the final game of the session between two long-time Highway 6 foes.

The Gophers got the better of the Wildcats on Tuesday night, winning 55-45, moving Green City to the boys semifinals, and a meeting with #1 seed Scotland County on Thursday night at 8 o’clock.

The Scotland County boys looked strong in their Novinger Tourney opener, rolling to a 64-18 win over Newtown-Harris.

The result for the Scotland County girls was similar, as the Lady Tigers, with a #1 seed as well, downed Newtown-Harris 52-20.  The Atlanta girls triumphed over LaPlata 43-34.

At the Novinger Tournament, two championship semifinals and two consolation semifinals will be played over the next two nights.  In the marquee game of Wednesday night, the Milan Wildcats, seeded #3, take on the traditional northeast Missouri powerhouse LaPlata Bulldogs.  Tip for that semifinal is slated for 5:20 this (Wednesday) afternoon.  That game is preceded, at 4 o’clock, by the Milan Lady Wildcats looking to beat Novinger for the second time in nine days, this time in a consolation semifinal.

Tonight’s girls semifinal will be played at 6:40, with the Green City Lady Gophers challenging Brashear, while the Brashear boys, in consolation round play, go up against Atlanta at 8 o’clock.
