Lady Gophers basketball team honored with Sportsmanship award from Holiday Hoops event

High School Basketball

The Green City Lady Gophers are the receipients of the 2017 High School Holiday Hoops Sportsmanship Award. The presentation was made Tuesday night before a home crowd at Green City High School. Making the presentation were Ron Dougan, Award Sponsor and Hoops Members Steve Perry, Don Warren and Hoops Director Steve Maxey.

Accepting the award were members of the 2017-18 Girls Basketball Team and Coach Cody Moore. The Green City Girls were selected from the 54 girl’s teams participating in the recent High School Holiday Hoops on the North Central Missouri College Campus.

The award is based on sportsmanship displayed during Holiday Hoops by the team, coaching staff, cheerleaders and fans. The selection is made upon recommendations by team hosts, officials, and the Hoops steering committee.

It is interesting to note that Green City High School is the only high school to receive both the boys and girls sportsmanship awards in Hoops History. The Green City Boys earned the award in 2013.  Aside from their sportmanship recognition, the Lady Gophers are in the midst of one of the best seasons in school history, currently sitting unbeaten with a record of 23-0 and a ranking of #2 in the state in Class 1 girls basketball.

The winner of the boy’s sportsmanship award will be announced later this week following the presentation.
