South Harrison, Stanberry boys advance to Albany consolation final

The Albany Invitational Basketball Tournament continued with consolation semifinal action on Wednesday night.  The South Harrison boys rebounded from an eight-point loss to Worth County in the quarterfinals, beating the host Albany Warriors, 58-32.  The Bulldogs advance to Friday night’s 7 o’clock consolation final to play the Stanberry Bulldogs, a 57-50 winner over GRC West rival King City.

The boys semifinals are Thursday night, with the Jefferson boys taking on Worth County at 6:15, and the Princeton Tigers, in action to be broadcast on KTTN FM 92.3, playing Pattonsburg at 9:15.

On the girls side, the Albany Lady Warriors defeated the Pattonsburg Lady Panthers, 54-42, moving Albany into the 5:30 consolation final on Friday night against King City, a 39-27 winner over South Harrison.

In the girls semifinals on Thursday night, KTTN-FM will have coverage of the Princeton Lady Tigers vs. Worth County Lady Tigers game at 4:45.  The Stanberry Lady Bulldogs put their #1 seed on the line against Jefferson at 7:45.

At the Gallatin Tournament on Wednesday night, the quarterfinals were completed, wit the Braymer girls advancing to play Trenton on Friday night, with a 59-41 win over Winston, while the Hardin-Central girls moved on with a 49-30 triumph over Maysville.  

In GIT boys first round action, Winston cruised to a 76-17 win over Gilman City, while the host Gallatin Bulldog rolled over Braymer, 62-38.

In the consolation semifinals on Thursday night from GHS, the Polo Lady Panthers play Maysville at 4:30, with the Gilman City boys battling Maysville at 5:45.  The Gilman City Ladyhawks play Winston at 7, with the Braymer boys draw Hardin-Central at 8:15.

From the Savannah Tournament, it was a rough night for the Chillicothe boys, as Maryville ran past the Hornets, 62-39.  Other boys results were Hogan Prep 57, LeBlond 47; Platte County 54, Benton 47; and Savannah 50, Smithville 47.

The girls semifinals from Savannah High School are Thursday night, with the Maryville Lady Spoofhounds playing the Benton JV at 4 o’clock and the Savannah Lady Savages battling LeBlond at 5:30, both in the consolation round.  In the championship semifinals, the Smithville Lady Warriors play William Chrisman at 7, with the Chillicothe Lady Hornets putting a 2-0 mark up against Staley at 8:30.

The Milan girls and boys both moved to 2-0 on the season with victories in the Tri-Rivers Classic at Schuyler County High School on Wednesday night.  The Milan boys doubled up Scotland County 60-30, while the Lady ‘Cats picked up a big and tight win, 54-52 over Scotland County.  The Putnam County Midgets grabbed a pair of wins over Schuyler County, with the boys final 73-39, and the girls final 49-37.

The Grundy R-5 girls and boys came up short in a pair of close first-round games at the Novinger Tournament.  The Lady Panthers lost to Atlanta 55-43.  Brianna Carpio had 12 points and Anna Milazzo 10 for Grundy.  The Green City Lady Gophers, behind 37 points from all-stater Brooke Littrell, hammered Novinger 68-42.

In boys quarterfinal action, Grundy R-5 fell to 0-2 with a 54-49 loss to the host Novinger Wildcats.  Caden Gann paced the Panthers with 19 points, while Tanner Williams had 16 and Wayne Baxter 14.  The Green City boys improved to 2-0 with a 60-49 win over Atlanta.

The Meadville girls and boys were victorious in the Northwestern quarterfinal rounds at the gymnasium in Mendon on Wednesday night.  The Lady Eagles, seeded #3, won a low-scoring affair with Brunswick, 36-21.  In the other girls game, top-seed Higbee rolled past Keytesville, 60-31.

The Meadville boys, also seeded third, hammered Keytesville, 71-20.  The #2 seed hosts from Northwestern walloped Higbee, 68-28.

The Tina-Avalon girls, despite Hailey Rucker’s 10 points, lost at Santa Fe, 38-30, falling to 1-1.  Josey Burton led the Lady Chiefs with 16 points.  The Tina-Avalon girls and boys play at Carrollton on Thursday night.
