Ranked fourth in the latest NJCAA DII poll, NCMC women’s basketball suffered its first defeat of the season on Monday night, falling 76-57 to second-ranked Johnson County CC at Cavalier Fieldhouse in Overland Park, Kansas. The game, broadcast on KGOZ FM 101.7, brings NCMC’s record to 7-1 ahead of a home matchup Tuesday night against Kansas City Kansas CC, with tipoff scheduled for 5:30 pm.
Despite a commendable scoring effort from LaKorria Brown off the bench, totaling 15 points on 6-10 shooting, the Lady Pirates were limited to a season-low 57 points. Starter Jessica Reeter also contributed 15 points, with 10 from the free-throw line.

While trailing by only 3 points at halftime, NCMC faced a challenging third quarter, getting outscored 27-10. The deficit proved insurmountable as Johnson County controlled the boards with 39 rebounds compared to NCMC’s 17.
Notably, NCMC struggled in shooting, particularly from beyond the arc, going 4-25 from 3-point range and posting an overall field goal percentage of 31.5%. The team aims to rebound as they face Kansas City Kansas CC in Tuesday night’s matchup.
