The Lawson girls and boys track teams hosted and won both the boys and girls team titles in Monday’s Nick Sloop Invitational, with the Cardinal boys scoring 134 points and the Lady Cards 104. Trenton’s boys had a strong performance with 102 points, finishing second, with the THS Lady Bulldogs scoring 65 points to finish fifth. The Braymer boys, with 49 points, were sixth, while the Braymer girls scored 47 points in a 7th place finish.
Trenton’s boys showed strength in Monday’s individual distance races, with Daniel Rodriguez winning the 3200 for THS, while his teammate, Zane Rottman, took the 1600 meter title. The Trenton four-some of Wyatt Whittle, Matthew Sibbit, Brian Ewing, and Austin Burkeybile won the 4 by 100 relay.
Other highlights for the Trenton Bulldog boys were 2nd place from Dylan Harris and 3rd from Mark Trump in the high jump, third place for Austin Burkeybile in the long jump, 2nd place for Sibbit in the 300 meter hurdles, with Carson Radcliff finishing 3rd in that event.
Trenton was 2nd in the 4 by 200 relay (to Richmond), 4 by 400 relay (to Lawson), and 4 by 800 relay (to Lawson).
Braymer’s Jordan Miller had a superb day on the field events, finishing first in the javelin, and second in the shot put and triple jump.
Whitley Richman of the Trenton Lady Bulldogs took a title in the girls high jump, while adding runner-up finishes in the 100 hurdles and 300 hurdles. Shayla Woodside of THS was 3rd in the 400 meter dash and 4th in the triple jump.
Trenton’s 4 by 400 relay team of Tenna Roberts, Shayla Woodside, McKayla Blackburn, and Lexi Whitaker won their race. Lexington took the 4 by 100 relay (THS 4th), Plattsburg the 4 by 200 (Trenton 3rd), and Lexington the 4 by 800 relay (Trenton 4th).
The Trenton varsity track and field team continues a busy week this (Tuesday) afternoon, participating in the LeBlond Relays in St. Joseph at 2:30.
