Mercer sweeps Princeton to claim South Harrison Tourney titles

On Monday night, in action heard on KTTN FM 92.3, the Mercer girls and boys basketball teams claimed hard-earned, single-digit victories over the rival Princeton Tigers, winning the championship games of the South Harrison Invitational Tournament.

In the girls game, the Lady Cardinals emerged with a 38-37 victory, as Aubrey Wilson had 10 points for Mercer.  Lindsey Batson led Princeton with 13 points.

The Mercer boys, behind 14 points each from Johnathan Johnson and Cam Hartley, beat the Tigers 47-43.  For PHS, Logan Dunkin had 18 points with Preston Thomas adding 14.

Girls Consolation : South Harrison 45, North Harrison 38 (OT)

Boys Consolation : Northeast Nodaway 57, North Harrison 51

Girls 3rd Place : Northeast Nodaway 57, Maysville 38

Boys 3rd Place : Maysville 47, South Harrison 43

 

From the Stanberry Tournament, the Stanberry Lady Bulldogs routed Jefferson to take Monday night’s girls championship game, 58-22.  The Mound City boys edged Jefferson in the title title, 55-53.  North Andrew’s boys won third place over South Nodaway, 71-58.

From the Milan Tournament, the host Wildcat boys beat Linn County in the title game, 72-47, with Green City edging Brashear in the girls championship, 46-41.  The Milan Lady Wildcats claimed third place over Putnam County, 57-23, while the Green City boys won third, 67-46 over Novinger.

At the Bill Burns Classic at Lathrop High School, the Plattsburg Lady Tigers downed Lathrop in the girls championship game, 59-50, with the Lathrop boys winning their championship game against Van Horn, 72-61.

Boys 3rd Place : Plattsburg 82, Van Horn 70

Boys Consolation : Cameron 54, Braymer 47

The Tri-County girls beat Winston on Monday night, 56-52, with the Winston boys downing Tri-County 80-25.  The Grundy R-5 girls beat Northwestern, 70-48, with the Northwestern boys beating Grundy R-5 79-34.
