Milan downs Princeton in GRC softball duel, 5-2

High School Softball Local Sports Volleyball

The Milan Lady Wildcats took a victory over the visiting Princeton Lady Tigers on Thursday afternoon at Legion Field, taking the contest by a score of 5-2.   MHS opened the scoring in the bottom of the 1st inning on a homer off the bat of Cady Pauley, with younger sister Emerson Pauley doubling in the third inning.  It was a night for the “Pauley sisters”, as Cady shutdown Princeton’s normally potent offense, allowing two runs on only two hits through seven innings, striking out 11 Lady Tigers.

Freshman right-hander Kelsey Goodin got the start for PHS, surrendering three runs on four hits over 3 1/3 innings, saddled with the loss as she struck out two batters.

The Trenton Lady Bulldog varsity volleyball team had their home opener spoiled by Carrollton on Thursday night, with the Lady Trojans taking the 25-21, 25-13, 25-12 sweep.  The JV match went to Carrollton in straight set, 25-22, 25-21.

For the THS varsity, Makenzee Epperson had five kills, Ava Simpson 11 assists, and Ally Yoder four aces.  Coach Ewald says while moments, particularly early, were good for the Lady Bulldogs, the team will be working to solve a “mental block” as a group, finding a way to flip momentum during difficult moments in matches.  Trenton’s homestand continues next week, with dates against Hamilton on Monday, South Harrison on Tuesday, and Kirksville on Thursday, before the annual Lathrop Tournament on Saturday, September 18th.
