Milan’s Lady ‘Cats win at Maysville to clinch GRC East’s #6 seed

The Milan Lady Wildcats improved their Grand River Conference record with a 55-49 win at Maysville on Wednesday night.  The game was the front-end of a varsity doubleheader, moved from December 16th due to icy weather on that Friday night.

Courtney McCollum led Milan with 15 points, while Adrienne Weaver added 13, and Genesis Sarabia 11 points.  The win gives Milan the #6 seed in the GRC East, and a home date on “Crossover Friday” against the Pattonsburg Lady Panthers, with tip scheduled for 6 o’clock.

Hannah Klippenstein led the Lady Wolverines with 20 points while Abby Huffaker had 10.  The Maysville girls will host Albany in the 8 vs. 8 seed game on Friday night at 6 o’clock.

The Milan boys have hit a rough spot in their season, struggling with shooting efficiency, and an injury suffered by the Wildcats top scorer and most experienced player.  On Tuesday night, senior forward Wyatt Bohle injured his knee in the Wildcats game at Gallatin, and was unable to play at Maysville.  Milan’s offense, with Bohle’s explosiveness, struggled in their final two conference road games, including in a 46-36 loss at Maysville on Wednesday night.

The loss was the Wildcats fourth in a row in GRC play, dropping Milan to 3-4 and into a #5 seed for Friday’s game, where the Wildcats welcome King City to “The Den” for a 7:30 tip.

Against Maysville, Ryan Dabney led the Wildcats with 11 points while fellow freshman Hunter Shaw added eight.  Austin Shirk and Brett Sooter both scored 15 points for the victorious Wolverines.

Milan did receive “good news” pertaining to Bohle’s knee injury on Friday morning.  After results from an MCI came in, Milan boys coach Andrea Dabney reported to KTTN Sports Director Tom Johnson that Bohle did not have any ligament tears as a result of Tuesday’s injury, leaving the door open for a potential February return to the floor.
