Missouri Western announces Griffon alum, Matt Williamson, as new football coach

A Missouri Western graduate from 1996, and a three-time All-MIAA defensive lineman in the mid-1990’s, Matt Williamson, has been named the sixth head football coach in the history of Missouri Western State University.

Williamson will return to the MIAA job in St. Joseph after spending the last decade coaching in the Division 1 ranks, most recently as defensive coordinator at Stephen F. Austin.  A press conference was held Tuesday morning introducing Willamson to the Missouri Western community.

Prior to his time at SFA, Williamson was defensive coordinator at Central Arkansas (2010-2013) after serving as defensive line coach and special teams coordinator for three seasons.  After serving two seasons as a defensive grad assistant at Missouri Western (1997-98), Williams was defensive line coach and recruiting coordinator at Arkansas-Monticello in 1999.

Between 1999 and 2007, Williamson was on the Missouri Western coaching staff, first as a defensive line coach before being named defensive coordinator in 2005.

At MWSU, Williamson replaces Jerry Partridge, who was released as Griffons coach after 20 years at the St. Joseph Division 2 school.

Williamson and his wife, Andrea, have two sons, Zach and Brock.
