Preston Thomas of PHS wins Chillicothe cross-country event

Princeton High School’s Preston Thomas claimed the boy’s individual title in Tuesday’s Chillicothe Invitiational cross country event, run at Simpson Park.  Thomas traversed the course in 17 minutes, 22.4 seconds, beating the 17:31.20 time put up by runner-up Gavin Fitzwater of Polo.  Dillon Seckington of Meadville (18:25.40) was seventh.  

The girls race was won by Platte Valley’s (Jefferson-South Nodaway) Ashley Riley, with a time of 19 minutes, 32 1/2 seconds.  Anna Carter was third and Audrey Maggart fifth, both representing the GRC’s St. Joseph Christian Lions.

Chillicothe’s top finishers were Hayden Simmer in 27th place for the boys and Kadence Shipers 13th, Callaway Chapman 16th, and Emma Burk 20th for the girls.

The Kirksville boys, with 31 points, won the team title at Chillicothe from Tuesday, with the girls title, 47 points strong, going to Moberly.  Chillicothe’s boys had 245 points for 9th place, with the Lady Hornets, with 113 points, in fourth place.

Other schools in the event were Savannah, LeBlond, Polo, Mid-Buchanan, Lafayette, Benton, Salisbury, East Buchanan, and Braymer.
