Princeton rallies in final two frames for 9-6 road win at Worth County

High School Softball

The Princeton Lady Tigers rallied to beat both the Worth County Lady Tigers and the stormy weather coming in from the northwest, in a high school softball contest from Grant City, broadcast Tuesday night on KTTN FM 92.3.

Princeton came back from a 6-0 hole at the end of five innings to snare the program’s 9th win of the season, with the sudden inability for Worth County’s pitchers to find the strike zone playing a key role in the comeback.  Sophomore Lauren Krohn was hit by a pitch to begin the inning, with four consective walks delivered by Braidy Hunt meaning the end of the afternoon for the Worth County southpaw, leaving up 6-1 with the bases loaded and nobody out.  Another walk to Megan Spencer forced in the second run, with a Kennedy Norton single driving in two, cutting the lead to 6-4.  After a Lacie Lewis single, Krohn bounced into a forceout at home, leaving Princeton down 6-5 with Mackenzie Duncan at the plate.  A routine grounder to short was thrown over the head of the first baseman, scoring the tying and go-ahead runs.

Princeton added two more tallies in the 7th inning, on RBI hits by Norton and Lindsey Batson, with Krohn retiring Worth County in order in the 6th and 7th to secure the win.  Worth County drops to a mark of 13-3, with two of those losses to Princeton.

Krohn got the win for PHS, going seven innings, allowing six runs, including a two-run homer in the 5th by Meredith Spires, striking out ten batters, and walking nobody.  Ali Brown came in for Hunt in the 6th inning and took the loss, giving up three runs and three hits over 2 plus innings of work.  The 7th run scored by Princeton in the 6th inning rally went against Hunt’s final total.
