Road win at Polo leaves THS one game behind GRC leading Putnam County

High School Softball

The Trenton Lady Bulldogs cruised to a second Grand River Conference victory in three nights, rolling the host Polo Lady Panthers in a 12-1 final on Thursday night.  Senior catcher Lexi Whitaker had a career night for the Lady Bulldogs, hitting for the cycle and going 5 for 5 with a pair of doubles, while junior Maci Moore, with a leadoff homer in the first inning, tied the Trenton career record of 19 home runs, originally set by 2019 graduate Salem Croy, helping THS improve to 7-4 overall and 5-1 in GRC action.

McKayla Blackburn went the full seven innings for Trenton, scattering four hits and a run, while striking out 12 Polo batters.  Mallory Clevenger was tagged for 14 hits and 12 runs over 6 2/3 innings from the circle for Polo, striking out five Bulldogs.

Trenton came into the night hoping for assistance in the GRC race from Princeton, however the Lady Tigers, in a high-scoring duel, became Putnam County’s latest victim, as the Lady Midgets emerged with a 12-6 win in Unionville, staying unbeaten on the season, and one game ahead of Trenton and Maysville in the GRC East standings.  With a Tuesday win at Maysville, the Lady Midgets would clinch the divisional title for the first time.  A Trenton win at Milan combined with a Maysville win would send the result to a three-way tiebreaker scenario.  A two-way tie between Trenton and Putnam County and Trenton would give the crown to the Midgets, via head-to-head, with a Maysville/Putnam County tie going to the Wolverines via the same head-to-head result.
