The eight-man state championship is headed to Mound City High School.  On Saturday afternoon at Memorial Stadium in Columbia, the Panthers completed an 82-46 victory over Southwest Livingston, leaving Mound City as state champions, leaving the Wildcats, a program co-op’ed with Hale and Tina-Avalon, in the runner-up spot.

Following the eight-man title game, the state’s biggest schools played their championship game, with Joplin and DeSmet locking horns in a battle of 13-0 teams for the Class 6 state title.  The game, and championship, went to the St. Louis school, 35-20 over the Cinderella Eagles out of southwest Missouri.

In semifinal action on Saturday, both the Lathrop Mules and Mid-Buchanan Dragons had to travel long distances for semifinal contests, and both came up just short in their attempts to reach the state final.  Lathrop, in Class 2, lost to powerful Lutheran North by a score of 38-24, with that win sending the Crusaders into the state championship game against Ava, a 20-14 overtime winner over Clark County.

In Class 1, Mid-Buchanan lost in the semifinals for the second consecutive season, losing to the tradition-rich Valle Catholic Warriors by a score of 37-14.  The Warriors will play Lincoln, a 46-20 winner over Marceline, in the state title game.

In Class 3, Odessa beat Kennett 31-14 while Cassville shutout Trinity Catholic 13-0.  In Class 4, Platte County claimed a 15-14 win at St. Mary’s of St. Louis, while Webb City routed Ladue Horton Watkins, 35-0, while in Class 5, Jackson knocked out Kansas City Staley 20-7, while Carthage took down Fort Zumwalt North 20-17.
