The Kansas City Royals bounced back from a loss on Monday to win their second straight game against the Toronto Blue Jays, 3-2, on Wednesday night.
Alec Marsh and four relievers combined for a six-hitter, with Maikel Garcia and Salvador Perez each having two hits and an RBI. Bobby Witt Jr. extended his hitting streak to five games, saying, “That’s Royals baseball… we’ve got to keep doing that. Get on the basepaths, be aggressive, make things happen.”
John Schreiber picked up the win in relief, and James McArthur earned his sixth save. McArthur praised the team’s bullpen, saying, “We all have a really good idea of what we’re trying to do… we just try to pass the baton to each other and feed off each other.”
The Blue Jays’ Yariel Rodríguez took the loss, giving up three runs on six hits in four innings. Toronto manager John Schneider remains confident, saying, “It’s a matter of time… we’re built to score runs, and it’ll turn around.”
The Royals scored early, with Witt and Vinnie Pasquantino walking and Perez lining a single to score Witt. Kyle Isbel hit a two-out double and scored on a single by Garcia in the second.
The Blue Jays got on the board with a George Springer homer in the fifth, but the Royals added another run in the fifth. Toronto pulled within 3-2 in the sixth, but McArthur closed it out for the win.
The series concludes Thursday afternoon, with Jose Berrios starting for the Blue Jays against Cole Ragans for the Royals.
