South Harrison girls win Albany Tournament thriller against Worth County, advance in overtime

The #3 seeded South Harrison Lady Bulldogs got quite the scare on Tuesday night, but held off a strong challenge from GRC rival Worth County for a 48-47 overtime victory to open might #2 of quarterfinal action from the Albany Invitational Basketball Tournament.

The victory sends SHHS into the semifinals (Thursday 7:45 PM) and a meeting with another GRC West squad, Stanberry, after the #2 seeded SHS Lady Bulldogs hammered Pattonsburg on Tuesday night, 60-23.

In girl’s games on Wednesday night, in the consolation round, Albany will duel with Princeton at 4:45, followed by Pattonsburg taking on Worth County at 7:45.

In boys action from Tuesday, the powerhouse Stanberry Bulldogs pounded the host Albany Warriors 67-23, pushing the Bulldogs into a Thursday night (6:15) semifinal with King City.  On the bottom half of the boys bracket, #3 seed Worth County moved its record to 2-0 with a 63-36 win over Pattonsburg.  The Tigers will play Jefferson in the late-night (9:15 PM tip) semifinal on Thursday from the AHS gym, while Pattonsburg drops into a consolation semifinal with Princeton, Wednesday night at 9:15.

Wednesday night’s other consolation semifinal will be the Albany boys against South Harrison at 6:15.
