Stallo, Baker claim individual state wrestling titles, Trenton’s Whitney finishes 3rd, Owen 6th

There were two state champions and one second-place finishers from north Missouri at the state wrestling championships, finishing Saturday night at Mizzou Arena in Columbia.

Clayton Stallo of Marceline got a pin in the finals to capture the 138 pounds championship in Class 1.  The fall came in the second period at the 3:49 mark.

Brooks Baker of Brookfield won a 3-2 tiebreaker to win the heavyweight championship, also in Class 1.

Kayde Burton of Chillicothe placed second at 182 pounds in Class 2.  Burton lost a 4-2 decision in the title match.

The Whitfield Warriors dominated the Class 1 field, racking up 240 pounds to win the team state championship.  Included in the Warriors performances were five individual champions and four others who finished second.  The 240 points from the St. Louis area private school nearly doubled the total of runner-up Seneca.  Marceline was third, followed by Lathrop.  Lawson was 7th, Brookfield 8th, and Gallatin 9th, with the Trenton Bulldogs in 20th place.

The Mexico Bulldogs won the Class 2 state championship, with Kirksville 16th and Chillicothe 17th.

Kearney won the Class 3 title while Christian Brothers College (CBC) High School of St. Louis captured the Class 4 state crown.

For Trenton High School, Jadan Whitney won a state medal, finishing third at 195 pounds, with Mason Owen finishing sixth to take a state medal at 220 pounds.
