The Stanberry girls and Worth County boys claimed low-scoring victories on Saturday night, defeating a pair of tough squads from Jefferson High School in the championship games of the Albany Invitational Tournament.

Stanberry’s Lady Bulldogs held off a strong Jefferson rally in the final quarter to win the Albany title, 39-33.  The Lady Bulldogs, on the power of a combined 31-16 advantage in the first and third quarters, appeared to have the game in hand, before the Lady Eagles came off the mat to outscore the defending GRC West champions, 13-3 in the final quarter.

Taylor McQueen led Stanberry with 13 points, with Lily Osborn adding 10.

The boys championship game went to Worth County over Jefferson 37-27, as the Tigers outscored the Eagles 20-10 in the final quarter, after both teams were locked up, tied at 17 all after three quarters.  McClellan had 15 points and Hawk 11 for the Tigers, now 4-0 to start the season.

The Stanberry boys won third place on Saturday evening, downing the Pattonsburg Panthers, 40-38.  Brad Hailey led the Bulldogs with 13 points.
