If last Saturday’s trip to Schuyler County serves as any indication, the Trenton Lady Bulldogs look ready to roll into the 2018 softball season, winning three separate “scrimmages” in decisive fashion, 6-0 over Grand River Conference rival Putnam County, 7-0 over the host Schuyler County Rams, and 2-0 over the Lady ‘Dogs of Brookfield.
In nine innings of work, in outscoring their opponents by a combined mark of 15-0, Trenton’s pitching was equally strong, limiting their competition to just four base runners total.
Trenton, in the 12-team Cameron Tournament, will open the regular season on Friday in “Pool D” of the annual event. The Lady Bulldogs, on Field 3, will play the Savannah Lady Savages at 12 noon, with a meeting against the DeKalb Lady Tigers set for 4:45 on Field 1. Savannah and DeKalb play in the “middle match” of Pool D at 1:45 (Field 2).
Depending on the seeding out of pool play, Trenton will play next on Saturday morning. If THS emerges as the top seed out of Pool D, the Lady Bulldogs would play the #2 seed out of Pool C (Lafayette, Lawson, Platte Valley) at 8 AM in the quarterfinals. If Trenton is the #2 seed coming out of Friday, THS would play the top seed out of Pool A (Cameron, Mid-Buchanan, St. Joseph Central) at 8 o’clock in the quarterfinals. A #3 seed would eliminate the Lady Bulldogs from a chance to compete for the championship, with all four #3 seeds going into a consolation bracket at 9:45 AM, with Pool D matched against Pool A, and Pool B playing Pool C.
