Top-ranked Wildcats use depth, athleticism to beat South Harrison 71-54

The Milan Wildcats traveled to Bethany on Thursday night for a Grand River Conference doubleheader with the South Harrison Bulldogs, returning home with a pair of victories, in action heard on KTTN FM 92.3.

The unbeaten Milan boys, ranked #1 in the state by the Missouri Basketball Coaches Association in Class 2, scored 25 points in the opening quarter to build a double-digit lead (25-14), and cruised to a 71-54 victory, improving to 18-0 overall.  Hunter Shaw scored 13 first-half points, and 17 overall, to pace the Wildcats.  Junior forward Ryan Dabney had 13 and guard Marcus Diaz 10.

South Harrison, falling to 8-8, had 13 points from Austin Lasher.  Braydon Sunderman added 12, and Cody Weller 10 points.

Behind 37 points from freshman phenom Cady Pauley, the Lady Wildcats dominated the opening game, pounding South Harrison, 78-34.  Jordan Gray had 10 points for Milan, with Tahlie Gray scoring nine.  South Harrison had 12 points from Cooper Jennings, with Emily Stramer scoring 10.

On Friday night, Trenton swept Stanberry in the THS annual Courtwarming games on Hot Country Z 101.7.  The girls game saw #5 ranked (Class 1) Stanberry give unbeaten Trenton a quality tussle, but the host Lady Bulldogs survived by a score of 56-36.  Maci Moore scored 18 points and Ainsley Tolson 16 for Trenton.  Lily Osborn, who verbally committed to the North Central Missouri College women’s basketball program the day before, had 18 points for Stanberry, with Madi Sager scoring 11.  Stanberry’s record falls to 17-2 with the setback, while Trenton surges to 17-0.

Friday night’s boys game saw a Trenton 54-46 win over Stanberry.  Dylan Harris, who beat Stanberry in the 2017 GRC championship game on a buzzer-beating three-point shot as a sophomore, had 18 points in his senior season effort against SHS, with Carson Radcliff adding 14, Max McNabb 10, and Jaren Whitney nine points.  The win pushes Trenton’s record to 8-9.  Stanberry, falling to 10-9, had 20 points from Collin Sager, with Cole Durbin and Landon Marticke each scoring 10.
