Trenton Blue Jays open ’16 season with doubleheader sweep

The Trenton Blue Jays battled the North Central Missouri Falcons on Tuesday night, and opened the 2016 American Legion baseball season with a pair of victories.

In Game #1, won by Trenton by a score of 8-3, Wyatt Thomas picked up the pitching victory, giving up three hits and three runs in three innings of work, while striking out five batters. Trae Brownell picked up the save, while Hadley Williams, Aaron Buford, and Stanton Blake all had three hits, with Williams and Brownell driving in two runs each.

Tristan Sewell got the win for the Blue Jays in Game #2, pitching four no-hit innings with two runs allowed and six strikeouts, with Bryce Long getting the save in a 6-2 final score.  Nick Hartley and Aron Buford both got base hits.

The Blue Jays will play in doubleheader action at Hannibal on Saturday, and will host Moberly on Sunday afternoon at 2 o’clock at Burleigh Grimes Field.
