Trenton Bulldogs split duals at Brookfield Wrestling Triangular

Wrestling

The Trenton Bulldog wrestling team continues to show steady improvement heading into the finishing stretch of the regular season, earning a competitively fought split with Richmond (42-33) win and Brookfield (39-30 loss) on Tuesday night at Brookfield High School.

Head Coach Charlie Bacon described three major reasons why the Bulldogs pulled out the win against the Spartans, saying, “at 113 pounds Quincy Griffin came out against a more experienced wrestler who probably had every intention of pinning us, but Quincy fought hard and kept the loss to a regular decision. Noah Lewis came out and 152 and took care of business quickly securing a pin after scoring the first take-down and Mark Trump, at 182 got the job done in the 1st period. Once Mark secured the pin we knew we had the team win over Richmond for the first time in a few years!”

Against Brookfield, Mark Trump once again had a pretty good match at 182 even though he was not able to secure the victory. He got caught on his back and managed to fight off and finish the match 6-2 against a strong Brookfield opponent. Mason Owen also went out at 220 and scored a few take downs and finished with a pin.

Trenton’s wrestlers, in a ‘make-up’ triangular from last week’s postponement, will host the Marceline Tigers and Macon Tigers on Thursday night at Trenton High School.  Polo was originally a part of the second Trenton “quadrangular” of the season, but the Panthers are unable to make the re-scheduled date.  The order of competition, starting at 5:30 on Thursday, will have Trenton against Macon, followed by Macon against Marceline, then Trenton against Marceline.
The Chillicothe Hornet wrestlers were in action on Tuesday night, traveling to Benton High School in St. Joseph to battle the Cardinals.  Benton earned the 38-36 MEC victory, winning 7 of the 11 matches on the night.
