Trenton pushes strong Lawson team to third set, comes up just short in volleyball thriller

Coming off of a rough start to Tuesday night’s varsity match at Lawson, the Trenton Lady Bulldogs rallied to take the second set in thrilling fashion, before the host Lady Cardinals held off the upstart Bulldogs in a final score of 25-9, 24-26, 25-20.

Lawson’s offense was led by Khalee Teegarden with 18 kills and Maggie Quick with 15 assists.  Shelby McGuire led the Lady Cardinals with 10 digs while Olivia Evans had three blocks.

Trenton volleyball coach Amanda King, despite the close defeat, praised her squad, saying, “Tonight’s game was fantastic!!!! The girls played their hearts out and to take Lawson to 3 sets is a huge accomplishment for us!! It was a great game to watch. Our team has improved dramatically and I am really excited for our next game Thursday vs Chillicothe!”

On the stat line for the Lady Bulldogs, Allena Allen had three aces, 2 kills, and 9 digs; Gilcy Ando: 1 ace, 4 kills, 1 block, 8 assists, and 6 digs; Karli Provorse: 4 kills, 3 blocks, 1 assist, 2 digs; Teresa Burkholder: 1 ace, 1 kill, 2 digs; Shawna Coplen: 3 kills, 5 assists, 7 digs; Laura Carlson: 2 digs; Melea Farmer: 3 kills, 5 digs; and Evy McCullough contributed one assist. 

The Lady Bulldogs match against the Hornets on Thursday night will be at Chillicothe High School.  Trenton hosts Penney in the Bulldog home opener on Monday night.
