The Trenton Bulldog wrestlers went 2-1 in duals in a quadrangular hosted by Stanberry High School on Thursday night. The Bulldogs lost to Stanberry to open the evening, 37-28, followed by THS victories over North Andrew (44-12) and Rock Port (48-24).
Due to the combination of illness and injury, Coach Charlie Bacon’s team was not at full strength for the quad. Brenden Johnson at 120 pounds and Cole Little at heavyweight did not dress out.
Daniel Rodriguez picked up a 15-6 major decision over Stanberry’s Jessica Claiborne. Drew Rorebeck pinned Stanberry’s John Shanks by pin (3:28) at 160 pounds, and Jadan Whitney, wrestling Stanberry’s Zach Oldham at 195 pounds, won by pin at 1 minute and 44 seconds.
Against North Andrew, Mason Owen of Trenton earned a 14-3 major decision over Johnathan Chittum.
Coach Bacon, as the Bulldogs ready for Saturday’s GRC Tournament at Trenton High School, told KTTN, “It was a decent night for us, but we’ve got plenty of room for improvement.”
