Trenton up one spot, Chillicothe falls to #3 in latest MBCA state poll

High School Basketball

The Trenton Lady Bulldogs have moved to #7 in the state in Class 3, with the latest basketball poll from the Missouri Basketball Coaches Association (MBCA) released on Thursday afternoon.  After four straight weeks that saw THS move into the poll at #10, and move up one spot, Trenton dropped to #8 on January 19th, before the latest move back up for the 16-2 leaders of the Grand River Conference Eastern Division.

Strafford, the 18-0 defending state champions, remain #1 in Class 3, followed by unbeaten St. James.  Boonville, a potential Trenton road block in a potential March playoff run, is ranked #5, with a record of 14-2.  Trenton’s move up the poll pushed the Lady Bulldogs one spot ahead of the Monroe City Lady Panthers, who dropped to #8 with a 14-2 record.

The Mercer girls, with a record of 15-1, remain #2 in Class 1, behind Walnut Grove.  Jefferson is fourth, Mound City sixth, Higbee 7th, Norborne 8th, Rock Port 9th, and South Nodaway at #10.

Clopton paces Class 2, with Scotland County 7th, Mid-Buchanan 8th, and Santa Fe 10th.

In Class 4, Chillicothe’s Lady Hornets drop one spot to #3, with the Hornets former slot at #2 taken by MICDS.  Incarnate Word is top-ranked, with St. Joseph Benton at #7.  A Smithville team that gave Trenton a five point loss (41-36) at NCMC Holiday Hoops on December 28th fell out of the top 10 after being ranked 10th on January 19th.

Jefferson City is ranked #1 in the Class 5 girls poll.

The unbeaten Winston Redbirds are still top-ranked in Class 1, trailed by #2 Walnut Grove, once-beaten #3 ranked Glasgow, the 4th-ranked North Andrew Cardinals, and #5 ranked Scott County Central.  Braymer and Mercer, two squads that took tournament semifinal losses on Thursday night (Braymer to Trenton and Mercer to Northwestern) are ranked #9 and #10 respectively.

Hartville, the Class 2 boys defending state champion, remains #1 with a 13-4 season record.  Wellington-Napoleon is fourth, Salisbury 6th, and Knox County #10.

Southern Boone is top-ranked for Class 3 boys, while Vashon and Chaminade hold the top-ranking for Classes 4 and 5.
