Trenton’s dynamic back-court ‘steals’ way to GIT semifinal win over Braymer

High School Basketball

Trenton High School junior guards Ainsley Tolson and Mykah Hurley, as dangerous of a guard duo on the offensive end of the floor across northern Missouri, may be just as potent defensively, as proven on Thursday night, as the classmates combined for 34 points and 16 steals, as the unbeaten Lady Bulldogs cruised to a 56-22 win over the Braymer Lady Bobcats.

The game, a semifinal contest in the Gallatin Invitational Tournament, was decided early, as Trenton outscored BHS 14-2 in the first quarter and 16-4 in the second quarter.  Sidney Lynch and Ashten Whitaker added six points each for THS, with Salem Croy contributing five.  Tolson, Croy, and Hurley all hit three-point shots.

Braymer was paced by sophomore Jasmine Taylor with 10 points.  The Trenton win sends the Lady Bulldogs into a championship duel with GRC East rival and fellow unbeaten Gallatin, Saturday afternoon at 1:15 on Hot Country Z 101.7.  Gallatin continued to show strong scoring ability, depth, and balance in a 60-41 victory over the Hardin-Central Lady Bulldogs.  Kelsey Maxwell had 15 points, Courtney Shubert 14, and Megan Cox 11 (with three made 3-pointers) for GHS.  Carly Thacker led Hardin-Central with 15 points.

The bracket is now set for the final two days and nights of the girls side of the GIT.  Winston and Polo meet at 4:30 this (Friday) afternoon in Gallatin, with Braymer and Hardin-Central playing in the girls third place game at 7:00.  Gallatin will host Trenton for the first of two December meetings on Saturday at 1:15, followed by the Trenton boys taking on Winston for the third consecutive year in the title game of the Gallatin Tournament.
