Trenton’s “Whitney Boys” lead the way in Senior Night win over Maysville, 57-22

High School Football

Trenton High School senior Jadan Whitney racked up ten tackles and a sack, while picking off two Maysville passes, including one for a 25 return for a touchdown, in a 57-22 Bulldog victory against the visiting Wolverines on Friday night, in action broadcast on Hot Country Z 101.7.  The Bulldogs featured a balanced offensive attack that amassed 255 rushing yards, including 103 on 10 carries by Carson Radcliff, and 266 yards through a reinvigorated passing game, led by the connection of junior quarterback Sam Schilling and junior wide receiver Jaren Whitney, who had 102 yards through the air in the win.

The night started negatively for Trenton, as Maysville sophomore quarterback Mallan Cole hit senior Cy Uthe on a 70 yard touchdown strike on the game’s first play from scrimmage, giving the Wolverines a 6-0 lead.  Trenton answered 2 1/2 minutes later, with Jadan Whitney scoring on an 8 yard run through the Wolverines defense, while Connor Crawford made the first of a perfect 7 of 7 night on PAT’s, giving THS the 7-6 lead.

A 4 yard touchdown run by Mark Trump with 4:08 remaining in the opening quarter gave the Bulldogs a 14-6 lead, but Maysville tied the game at 2:33 remaining in the opening quarter, with Cole hitting Morgan Tait on an 18 yard pass for a touchdown, and a two-point conversion that followed.  The lead, with 1:09 to go in the first quarter, tipped back to Trenton at 21-14, as Trump went in from one yard away.

Trenton’s longest play from scrimmage this season came 1:31 into the second quarter, as Schilling hit Whitney on an 87 yard catch and run, extending the lead to 28-21.  A 52 yard strike from Schilling to Whitney, three minutes later, pushed the ‘Dogs lead to 35-14, but Maysville, on a 5 yard Cole to Uthe connection, and a two point pass to Uthe, cut the lead to 35-22 at the half.

The second half saw improved Trenton defense, and precision ball control offense by the Bulldogs, with THS outscoring MHS 22-0 to secure the victory.  Carson Radcliff had a 10 yard touchdown run and Matthew Sibbit a one yard touchdown run for Trenton, sandwiched by Jadan Whitney’s “Pick 6” just 18 seconds after Radcliff’s third quarter run, effectively extinguishing Maysville’s hopes of a second-half comeback.  Tom Johnson provided the call on Hot Country Z 101.7:

Trenton Head Coach Brandon Boswell was pleased with the performance of his team in finishing the regular season at 3-6 overall, and 3-4 in the Grand River Conference:

The swift improvement of Trenton’s passing attack, heading into a District 8 quarterfinal test at Macon on Friday night, is the result of work by Schilling and the receiving corps, but also the strong work of the Bulldogs front line, according to Boswell:

The win vaulted Trenton up two spots to the #5 seed in Class 2, District 8, sending the Bulldogs to Macon on Friday night for a battle with the #4 seed Tigers.  That game, with Dennis Stephenson on the call, will be broadcast on KTTN FM 92.3.

The Princeton Tigers, in action broadcast on KTTN FM 92.3, fell to the South Harrison Bulldogs by a score of 26-21, locking PHS into a road trip to Gallatin this Friday night for district quarterfinal action.  Here is Head Coach Thomas Hotmer:

The Milan Wildcats clinched the outright Grand River Conference title with a 36-6 victory over the Polo Panthers on Friday night at Cal Hubbard Field.  Here is the coach of the GRC champs, John Dabney:
