Excelsior Springs clips Chillicothe in championship game of CHS Volleyball Tournament

Excelsior Springs earned a measure of payback against Chillicothe, rebounding from a loss in pool play to defeat the Lady Hornets, 23-25, 27-25, 25-21 in a three-set thriller in Saturday’s Chillicothe volleyball tournament championship game.

The loss spoiled what had been a strong day of volleyball for Chillicothe, as the Lady Hornets beat Brookfield 25-9, 25-12 and Excelsior Springs 25-24, 25-24 in pool play, while a two-set split with Richmond (25-12, 18-25), gave CHS the top seed for bracket play.

Bishop LeBlond, in pool play, split with Lawson, and swept Carrollton in two sets, putting the Golden Eagles into a semifinal with Excelsior Springs, taken by the Tigers in three sets.  Chillicothe, in the semifinals, went overtime in both sets to take down Lawson, 30-28, 30-28.

Bishop LeBlond knocked off Lawson in straight sets to claim third place.
