GRC softball’s first-ever “cross-over games” highlighted by Trenton/Stanberry title tilt

High School Softball

Seven games are set for Thursday night, in the first-ever crossover games in the Grand River Conference, as the eastern division travels to play at their western division foes.  In the marquee game of the night, the east champion Trenton Lady Bulldogs (17-0, 7-0) travel to Stanberry, for a championship showdown against the west champion Stanberry Lady Bulldogs (12-1, 6-0).  The game will be broadcast on KTTN FM 92.3, with pregame at 5:25, and first pitch at 5:30 from the Stanberry Softball Complex.

Just as in Stanberry, where the #1 seeds match up, the rest of the games will correspond with how the respective teams finished in regular season GRC play.  South Harrison, the #8 seed in the east, will not play on Thursday, as the west only has 7 teams this fall, due to the lack of a softball team at St. Joseph Christian.

In the game with the #2 seeds, Putnam County, the eastern division runner-up, travels due west on Highway 136 for a meeting with the western division runner-up Albany Lady Warriors.  Putnam County finished 6-1 in GRC play, with Albany holding a 4-2 record.  In the matchup of the #3 seeds, the Milan Lady Wildcats will be at Braymer for a meeting with the Lady Bobcats.  Braymer, before Thursday night’s game, has one more regular season GRC contest, at 5:30 tonight (Wednesday night) against North Andrew.

Former rivals in the old Grand River Conference softball set-up, the Maysville Lady Wolverines and Worth County Lady Tigers, will renew acquaintances after fourth-place finishes.  First pitch at 5:30 from Grant City.  In the #5 vs. #5 game, the King City Lady Wildkats host the Polo Lady Panthers.

Gallatin’s Lady Bulldogs, coming off a nine-inning win over Albany on Tuesday night, will make the healthy trip to Rosendale on Thursday night, to play the North Andrew Lady Cardinals.  In the #7 vs. #7 game, the Princeton Lady Tigers travel to Pattonsburg for a meeting with the Lady Panthers.
