Hamilton’s Cornelius is medalist, four Trenton girls advance in District 6 golf tournament

Class 1, District 6 girl’s golf was contested on Monday at the Green Hills Golf Course in Chillicothe.  Advancing their entire teams of five to next week’s sectional round were the district champion Brookfield Lady ‘Dogs (score of 369) and runner-up Gallatin Lady Bulldogs (score of 409).  Trenton High School finished in third place, with a score of 417, with THS advancing four of its five players to sectionals.

Penney High School’s Samantha Cornelius blew away her competition, shooting 82, seven strokes better than the runner-up finishes from Brookfield’s tandem of Emily Vogel and Julia Weydert (both 89).  Trenton’s Werthen Gass had a superb day, shooting a 93 for a fourth-place tie with Gallatin’s Megan Cox.  Brookfield’s Mallory Gonzalez was sixth at 94, with South Harrison’s Kylie Gannon in 7th place at 95, Brookfield’s Laken Sattman in 8th place (97) and Kelli Lynch of Gallatin 10th (100).

Others from the area advancing to sectionals were Hamilton’s Addison Cornett (102 / 11th place), Gallatin’s Kaitlyn Bird (103 / 13th place), Chillicothe’s Riley Brobst and Trenton’s Kaitlyn Mounce (107 / 15th place), Trenton’s Lana Raymo (108 / 17th place), Trenton’s Hannah Kennebeck (109 / 18th place), Chillicothe’s Lexi Hargrave (111 / 19th place), Gallatin’s Taylor Rardon (113 / 23rd place), Braymer’s Stephanie Gates (114 / 26th place), and Brookfield’s Sarah Bloss (137 / 43rd place).

Other scores from the Green Hills Course on Monday, finishing short of sectional qualification were Trenton’s Jordain Oshel at 116, Chillicothe’s Maddie Lamp at 120, Hannah Haakonstad at 123, and Lauren Price at 129, South Harrison’s Carley Wilhelm at 115, Ava Squires 139, Avery Myers 142, and Morganne Sweat 147, and Putnam County’s Molly Jo Parker at 114, Jazmine Lorence 130, Kaitlyn Vice 135, Daysha Caley 138, and Whitney Neighbors 167.

Gallatin’s Taylor Sloan shot 116, with the Lady Bulldogs second-place finish, as a team, advancing Sloan to sectional competition.

Class 1, District 7 was played at the Shirkey Golf Course in Richmond on Monday, with Pembroke Hill winning the team chase with a score of 346. India Gaume of Pembroke shot 75 for individual medalist honors.  Smithville’s Lady Warriors were runner-up with a score of 396.

East Atchison won Class 1, District 8 at the Mozingo Golf Course in Maryville, shooting 400.  Savannah was runner-up at 419.  East Atchison’s Lauren Quimby was medalist at 88.  Grand River Conference champion Olivia Law of King City shot 104, good for a 7th place tie.
