Maysville pulls away from Princeton, takes GRC road win

High School Softball Local Sports

The Maysville Lady Wolverines, behind the strength of a Sadie Smith grand slam and three-run double, and a two run homer by Ashley Brown, broke open a pitcher’s duel on Tuesday night for an 18-0 win at Gerald Gentry Field in Princeton against the Lady Tigers.  The win gives Maysville an early win in Grand River Conference action, while dropping Princeton to a mark of 2-1 overall, and 0-1 in GRC play.

Through three innings on Tuesday, Maysville had held a 1-0 lead before the floodgates, both on the scoreboard, and an early September rainstorm, opened up on the host Lady Tigers.  Princeton did salvage the junior varsity contest, beating Maysville 12-4.

At Legion Field in Milan on Tuesday night, Gallatin and Milan were only able to get six pitches into the top of the 1st inning, before heavy rain showers hit, pushing the opener between the Lady Bulldogs and Lady Wildcats to Wednesday night at 5:30.

In other Tuesday night softball action, Hamilton fired a 4-0 shutout at Brookfield, with Marceline routing Moberly 13-3.  At LaPlata, Olivia Coy had a one-hit, 16 strikeout effort, as the Lady Bulldogs downed Schuyler County 4-0.

Postponements from Tuesday’s shower activity included Carrollton at Salisbury (to Wednesday) and Novinger at Marion County (moved to Wednesday).  Meadville traveled to Green City on Tuesday night, with the game suspended by rain in the bottom of the 5th inning, with Meadville leading 4-2.  The game will resume from the point of suspension at a date to be announced.
