The Trenton Lady Bulldogs racked up 127 points on Friday afternoon to win the girls team championship at the Joe Shy Track Relays at Jerry Litton Memorial Stadium in Chillicothe. The host Chillicothe girls, with 81 points, finished second, followed by Maryville’s 80 1/2 points. The Maryville boys ran away with the team championship of the Joe Shy with 151 points, followed by Brookfield’s 94 1/2, and Chillicothe’s 83 points. The Trenton Bulldogs, with 76 1/2 points, finished in fourth place.
Winning the “Golden Shoe” awards, representing the individual athletes amassing the most points on the day, were Trenton High School junior Lexi Whitaker and senior Brian Ewing. Whitaker also broke the 34 year old record in the 300 meter hurdles, with a time of 48.77 seconds, breaking the mark set by B. Breitenbutcher of 48.84 seconds set in 1985.
