Area foundation announces scholarship in honor of late Holiday Hoops announcer Doug Harper

Family and friends along with The Community Foundation of Northwest Missouri today announced the establishment of the Doug Harper Memorial Scholarship to graduating seniors beginning with this academic school year. Doug Harper, a long-time fan and announcer of high school and college athletics, passed away recently.

Two scholarships, one for a boy and one for a girl in the amount of $500.00 each will be awarded to graduating seniors who have participated in high school basketball and competed in the annual High School Holiday Hoops during their senior year. The scholarships may be used at any college or university with no specific areas of study named. Applications will be accepted only on-line through The Community Foundation of Northwest Missouri / Scholar-Link website beginning January 15, 2019.

Harper was a long-time announcer at High School Holiday Hoops as well as many other area high school athletic events.

Contributions are also being accepted toward the Doug Harper Memorial Scholarship Fund to The Community Foundation of Northwest Missouri at 1006 West St. Maartens Drive, Suite B in St. Joseph Missouri 64506 or to Holiday Hoops Director Steve Maxey at 11005 North Hunter Avenue, Kansas City Mo 64157. All contributions are tax-deductible.
