Bulldog tennis, seeded #1 at Benton Tournament, tunes up with Cameron sweep

The Trenton Lady Bulldogs continued their strong fall tennis season, improving to 5-0 with a 9-0 shutout of the Cameron Lady Dragons on Thursday afternoon.

In the road sweep, seven of the nine varsity matches went the way of THS by 8-love finals, with Lauren Dolan beating Brenna Bontrager, Samantha Mihalovich defeating Y Ngoc nhu, Maddie Searcy over Morgan Ludeke, Emma Gilham over Mackenzie Williams, and Elle Neal downing Maren Williams.

At #1 singles, Trenton’s Claire Utley won a tough match with Cameron’s Madison Thogmartin 8-6.

In doubles play, the Bulldogs #1 entry of Utley and Dolan downed Thogmartin and Bontrager 8-2, while Mihalovch and Searcy (vs. Nguyen/Ludeke) and Gilham and Lattorie Johnson (vs. Williams/Williams) won by identical 8-love final scores.

Trenton won three JV matches against the Dragons, a Lattorie Johnson beat Makenzie Hahn 8-1, Kendall Crowley beat Abigail Hall 6-1, with Johnson and Crowley then combining for a 6-1 doubles win over Hahn and Hall.

Trenton is seeded first for the Benton Tournament at St. Joseph’s Noyes Courts, starting Friday morning at 9 o’clock.  Trenton enjoyed, by virtue of the seed, a first-round bye in the team event.  St. Pius X is seeded 2nd and Chillicothe third.
