Injured hand benches Perez for Royals’ Monday night loss

On Monday night, Kansas City Royals’ catcher Salvador Perez was absent from the lineup due to a left hand contusion. This injury occurred after Perez was struck on the left hand during the second inning of a game against the Philadelphia Phillies on Sunday. Although the injury was not deemed severe, Perez was held out of the lineup for the game against the Boston Red Sox on Monday to allow the swelling to subside.

X-rays conducted on Perez’s hand revealed no fractures or significant damage. However, manager Matt Quatraro remained uncertain about Perez’s availability as a bench player for the game against the Red Sox.

Quatraro provided an update on Perez’s condition, stating, “He’s responding well. Yesterday, when he got hit, right through the batting gloves you could see how swollen it was. … But it’s started to subside, he’s starting to move around a bit. It’s just a little bit tender, and I think the right thing to do is just giving him a day.”

Perez himself also shared his status on Monday, reassuring, “Feeling good, I’m fine,” as he held onto a bat. Despite the injury, Perez expressed optimism about his condition.

The decision to rest Perez was taken as a precaution to allow for proper healing and recovery.
