NCAA

The beat goes on for Bill Self on the recruiting trail at the University of Kansas, with the men’s basketball program receiving the verbal commitment of 6’5″ forward Marquise “M.J.” Rice of Napa, California this week.

Rice, originally from “Duke territory” in Durham, North Carolina, passed on the hometown Blue Devils, along with offers from Oklahoma State, Pitt, and North Carolina State, in choosing KU.  He had visited the campus in Lawrence on June 22nd and 23rd.

Rice is ranked #20 nationally in the Class of 2022 by 247sports.com and #28 by Rivals.com.  He played his sophomore season at Durham Academy in North Carolina, his junior season at Oak Hill Academy in Virginia, before moving for his senior season to Prolific Prep Academy in California.
