Milan’s Sawyer signs with Park University Pirate softball program

Milan High School senior catcher Breanna Sawyer, in a mid-day ceremony on Monday afternoon in the Milan High School Library, signed a letter of intent to join the softball program at Park University, part of a five-player class for the Pirates, coached on an interim basis by Trenton native Lindsey Derry.

Sawyer has been the backbone of the Lady ‘Cats program for the past four years, hitting .403 with multiple abilities at the plate, including power and RBI’s, along with providing good contact.  Sawyer’s top strength may be defensively, where she has played superbly for Milan at the catcher position.

Sawyer earned All-District honors for four straight years for Lady ‘Cats Head Coach Nate Dodson, including first-team as a junior and senior.  As a junior, Sawyer was an All-Region catcher.

Coach Derry, in speaking about Sawyer, commented, “Breanna is another well rounded individual that will do great things at Park University,.  She has solid defense behind the plate with great control of the game.  She is a great contact hitter that can score base runners as well.  She is a catcher that will fit great into our program.  We have another good character kid to add to Park.”

Coach Dodson, watching his second player sign collegiately this fall (Kenna Michael signed earlier with North Central Missouri College), said, “Breanna has been spectacular for us behind the plate over the last four years. Park University is getting more than they can imagine behind the plate.”

“I have not met too many young players with knowledge of the game such as Breanna and her knowledge is just another attribute added to her tremendous talents behind the plate. That skill set and her gleaming confidence resonate on those around her and that causes her teammates to flourish as well.  Her work ethic, leadership abilities and respect of the game show a lot about her true character and these traits will carry her as far as she wants to go on the next level.”
“Bre has the ability and awareness to see the game in front of her and let the game come into her own hands, yet at the same time has the ability to take complete control of any situation! I am so happy for her and can not wait to see her succeed on the next level.  It is very bittersweet to see her go and I could not be more proud of her.”
In addition to Sawyer, Park added Maple Woods transfer Kaylin Brooks, Smithville High School senior Lexie Duncan, Monett High School senior Haley Williams, and Blue Eye High School senior Jaden Box.
