Princeton wins Albany Tournament title, downing North Harrison 3-2

The Princeton Lady Tigers won their first three games of the season on Saturday, defeating Worth County, Stanberry, and North Harrison to take the championship hardware in the 8th Annual Bill Hill Memorial Softball Tournament in Albany.

The wins improve the Lady Tigers to 3-1, with Princeton downing Worth County 11-5, Stanberry 6-2, and North Harrison 3-2.

Gallatin, the #6 seed in the tournament, finished in sixth place, falling to Albany in the quarterfinal round 11-0, before rebounding with a 7-2 triumph over King City.  In the consolation final, Worth County outscored the Lady Bulldogs 13-7.

The Grand River Conference’s Maysville Lady Wolverines took the championship in the 12 team Cameron Tournament, going 5-0 over the two-day event.  On Friday afternoon, in Pool B, Maysville defeated St. Joseph Benton 11-2 and Lathrop 13-4.  Lathrop beat Benton in the first Pool B game of the day.  

Moving into bracket competition on Saturday, the Lady Wolverines downed Cameron 7-3 in the quarterfinals, Mid-Buchanan in a 10-4 semifinal blowout, and St. Joseph Central in the final 6-5.

The Trenton Lady Bulldogs finished in third place in Pool D, falling to 1-3 on the season with an 8-7 setback against Richmond and a 5-3 loss to Mid-Buchanan on Friday.  Mid-Buchanan beat Richmond 9-8.  However, THS moved its record to 3-3 and salvaged a .500 weekend with a strong performance on Saturday, beating Dekalb 6-2 and St. Joseph Benton 8-5 to win the consolation championship.
