Southwest Lady Wildcats, behind 30 from Rounkles, win Top 10 battle with Norborne

Southwest Livingston’s Kortlyn Rounkles had 30 points, six steals, and three assists, leading the #2 ranked (MBCA Class 1) Lady Wildcats to a 66-41 CLAA win over #8 ranked Norborne on Thursday night.  Colee Webb had a strong night shooting the ball for Southwest, finishing with 16 points, while Kaylie Campbell finished with 23 rebounds, dominating the paint for Southwest, while adding 13 points.

The Wildcat boys routed the Norborne Pirates, 68-23, with sophomore center Mack Anderson grabbing 23 board and scoring 17 points.  Wyatt Maddux had 22 points and nine rebounds for the ‘Cats.

Southwest’s CLAA rival, the Tina-Avalon Dragons, traveled to Winston on Thursday night for a doubleheader with the Redbirds.  The girls game went to the Lady Dragons by a final score of 59-46, with Hannah Colliver scoring 20 points and Haley Rucker 12 for the winning side.  For the Winston girls, Sophie Pliley had 21 and Teagan Caldwell 14 points.

The Winston boys hammered Tina-Avalon in a decisive 64-17 rout, improving to 11-1 on the season.  Jacob Lewis had 22 points, Cy Uthe 17, and Jakub Hisel 11 for Winston.

On Friday night, Tina-Avalon will host Hardin-Central in CLAA doubleheader action, while the Redbird girls and boys are off until next week’s Osborn Tournament.

The Chillicothe boys won at Bishop LeBlond on Thursday night, taking their MEC opener, 52-39.  The Hornets, now 13-1 on the season, had 14 points each from Adler Marshall and Jack Willard, while Golden Eagle senior Jack Harvey led all scorers with 19 points.  The Hornets host Maryville on Tuesday night in an early January key MEC showdown with two teams hoping to challenge Lafayette at the top of the conference standings.

In the Grand River Conference, both Putnam County teams are off tonight (Friday night), in addition to the Milan boys.  Those three squads play on Saturday on the final day of the Marceline Tournament.  The Milan Lady Wildcats are playing Meadville in a Marceline consolation semifinal at 4 o’clock on Friday afternoon, aiming for a victory that would advance the Lady ‘Cats into Saturday’s consolation final at 12 noon.

The rest of the GRC is in action tonight, including a full slate of games in the GRC West, as Albany visits King City, Braymer hosts Worth County, Pattonsburg welcomes in North Andrew, and Stanberry heads to St. Joseph Christian.

In the GRC East tonight, Trenton is at Maysville, with coverage on Hot Country Z 101.7 beginning at 5:50.  Likewise, in Bethany, coverage on KTTN FM 92.3 starts at 5:50 for the doubleheader between the Princeton Tigers and South Harrison Bulldogs.  The Gallatin Bulldogs will host the Polo Panthers in the other GRC East double-dip.

The Grundy R-5 Panthers, in non-conference play, will travel to Mendon tonight, battling the Northwestern Eagles.
