The Trenton Bulldog wrestling team traveled to Marceline today to a very competitive varsity tournament. THS had five medalists, all in the A pool. The A pool is the competitive round robin pool full of state medalists and state qualifiers. The B pool is meant for varsity kids with less experience, also wrestled in a round robin format.
The top medal was Mason Owen with a second place finish. Mason wrestled well all day against some of the the best kids at 220 from around the state. Daniel Rodriguez also placed 2nd in the A pool with his only loss coming from previous state champion Dylan Wheeler from Marceline. Drew Rorebeck earned a very hard fought 3rd place medal in one of the most competitive weights at 160. Drew’s weight had two other returning state medalist from last season. He came up short in his first loss by 3 points and his only other loss was a 5-4 decision. Drew looked very strong in the later periods of his matches and continues to get better on his feet.
Ty Sayre also took home a 3rd place medal at 170. Ty looked dominant in his wins and just made minor mistakes in his 2 losses against very tough opponents. I was proud of the way Ty handled himself on the mat today. Javan Whitney also placed 3rd at 195.
Coach Charlie Bacon commented, “This is Jadan’s second year of wrestling and he already looks like a seasoned wrestler against the top kids at 195. I’m very proud of our medalist from this tournament. They got some very good matches early in the season that will only help them down the road. Marceline is always one of the toughest class 1 tournaments of the year. Our younger kids really struggled with the caliber of wrestling that they saw this weekend, which is pretty typical for a tournament like this. There were no team scores kept, but the individual results are listed below for each weight.”
