Trenton JV teams sweep doubleheader at Gallatin

High School Basketball

The Trenton girls and boys junior varsity basketball teams took a pair of hard-fought victories on Thursday night at Gallatin High School, with the girls final 55-36 and the boys final sitting at 42-33.

In the girls game, Gallatin jumped out to a 7-2 lead, only to see Trenton begin to chip away at the early advantage.  By the end of the first quarter, Trenton had righted the ship to take a 10-9 lead.  Kennedy Norton hit a pair of three-pointers to help up the lead to six by the half.  Trenton extended the lead with a 13-3 advantage in the third quarter, cruising home to the win in the final quarter.

Norton led Trenton with 16 points, while McKayla Blackburn, Lexi Whitaker, and Saedee Jackson all had eight points for the Lady Bulldogs.  Allena Allen added seven points as Coach John Cowling commented, “I thought we shook off our slow start really well.  Once we figured out what we wanted to do offensively we really passed and shot the ball well.”

The Trenton JV boys pushed their record to 5-0 with the nine-point win at Gallatin.  Much like the girls game, GHS opened fast, leading 6-0 to start, and 22-15 at halftime.  Playing in the second half with what Coach Kameron Cool described as “more energy”, Trenton yanked away the lead with a 12-0 spurt out of the locker room, leading by as many as 13 in the fourth quarter in the road win.

Carson Radcliff had a game-high 21 points for Trenton, with Isaac Harris adding nine.\

The Trenton JV teams will each play two quarters against Maysville to begin a busy Friday night of basketball action at the THS gym.  The girls play at 5:00, with the boys at 5:30.  Varsity girls and boys games (both available on www.YouTube.com/KTTNRadio) will follow.
