Stuck in a tough “Pool C” grouping with KCI Conference Tournament champion Mid-Buchanan Dragons and the always competitive Plattsburg Tigers, the Trenton Lady Bulldogs found late morning struggles on Saturday at the Lathrop Tournament.

With an 0-2 record dropping Trenton into the bronze group heading into the afternoon, THS found momentum, and three straight victories, moving their overall mark to 6 wins and 6 losses in the 2017 season.

Against Mid-Buchanan to open play, the Lady Bulldogs lost a tough-fought opening set to the Dragons 25-23, then the second set, 25-18.  For THS, Melea Farmer had six assists, Karli Provorse four aces and six kills, while Shawna Coplen had four blocks, and Saedee Jackson four kills.

In match #2 against Plattsburg, THS found its most difficult time of the five matches played, falling to the Tigers 25-14, 25-13.  Provorse had four kills, Teresa Yoder two kills and three digs, with Jackson adding five digs, and Gilcy Ando four assists for the Lady Bulldogs.

Momentum turned for Trenton in the middle match of the day against Cameron, with Trenton winning two sets to take the match 25-22, 27-25, 9-15. The Lady Bulldogs finished action with back-to-back straight set wins, beating the host Lathrop Lady Mules 25-20, 25-25, and the North Platte Lady Panthers, 25-14, 25-20.

The long day of volleyball at Lathrop brought Trenton’s overall mark to 6-6, with a chance to move above. 500 for the first time this season, traveling to Hamilton to play the Penney Lady Hornets on Tuesday night at 5 o’clock.
