Lady Shamrocks, Lady Cardinals advance to HDC Conference girls championship game

The HDC Conference girls championship game is set, after #1 seed Mercer took a comfortable victory over Gilman City, while North Harrison survived an overtime duel with Grundy County, in Tuesday night’s semifinals at Winston High School.

The #2 seed from North Harrison beat the #3 seed, upset-minded Grundy R-5 Lady Panthers, 59-57.  Payton Craig led the Lady Shamrocks with 27 points, while Briley McLain had 13, and Brandy Rivet 10 points.  Grundy had 18 points from Matana Munday, 13 from Aubrey Gann, and 10 points from Morgan Axtell.

Next up for North Harrison is #1 ranked Mercer, after the Lady Cardinals dominated their semifinal with Gilman City, winning 84-35.  Morgan Eastin had 20 points to lead Mercer, while Rayne Kost and Nicole Kost both had 16 points, and Bailey Owens 10.  Hailey Burrows led the Ladyhawks with 23 points.

In the 7th place girls game, played on Tuesday night, the Newtown-Harris Lady Tigers, behind 22 points from Gabrielle Nielson, beat Tri-County 31-25.  Makayla George had 12 points to pace the Lady Mustang attack.

The HDC Conference Tournament continues tonight (Wednesday night) from Winston, with the Newtown-Harris Tigers meeting the Tri-County Mustangs in the 7th place game at 4:30.  The boy’s semifinals follow, with the Mercer Cardinals taking on the North Harrison Shamrocks at 6 o’clock, followed by the #1 ranked and unbeaten Winston Redbirds hosting the East Harrison Bobcats at 7:30.
