High School Basketball Local Sports

The Mercer girls met the in-county rival Princeton Lady Tigers for the second time this season, with the latest matchup, occurring on Monday night in the championship game of the South Harrison Tournament, seeing Princeton with senior all-GRC forward Lauren Krohn back from summer knee surgery.

However, the result between the squads remained the same, as Mercer held Princeton to just 22 points in a convincing 50-22 triumph, broadcast on KTTN FM 92.3.

Senior center Tori Meinecke, despite receiving a series of double and triple-teams from Princeton throughout the game, led Mercer with 20 points, with Maddi Fisher adding 12, as Mercer improves to 13-1 on the season.

Princeton, in falling to 9-6, had 12 points from Addy Henke.  Krohn was held to five.

The girls championship game was preceded by a rematch between the boys teams from Princeton and South Harrison, with the Tigers getting a measure of payback against the Bulldogs for a GRC loss earlier in the month, winning the third place game, 39-26.

Princeton (7-8) was led by sophomore Talan Holt with 19 points.  Jad Cornett had seven for 3-10 South Harrison.

The boys championship game was won by Northeast Nodaway, 52-42 over Maysville, with South Harrison winning the girls third place game over Tri-County 66-48.

The four games played were moved from Saturday to Monday due to the weekend snowstorm.

Four of the games slated for Saturday at the Milan Tournament were moved to Monday, with the Novinger girls and boys taking a pair of victories, with the Lady Wildcats downing Linn County in the consolation final 38-36, while the Novinger boys won third place against Brookfield 49-46.
