The Trenton High School tennis duo of Nick Shields and Creed Houghton finished sixth in the state Class 1 doubles tournament that ended on Saturday in Springfield.
Shields and Houghton won their consolation semifinal in a marathon three-set match against Kirksville rivals Bennett Hoshaw and Charles Fraser, 6-3, 5-7, 6-4. The Trenton tandem then fell in straight sets (6-1, 6-1) in the consolation final against Sean Finnie and John Newell of Priory High SChool.
Shields and Houghton had three wins and two losses in the two day tournament.
